New industry alliance to boost supply of alternative fuels in transport
|
|
The Renewable and Low-Carbon Fuels Value Chain Industrial Alliance kicked off its work this week with industry representatives from FuelsEurope, Hydrogen Europe, SAFRAN, Fincantieri, and the European Commission. The Alliance is tasked with rapidly boosting the supply of renewable and low-carbon fuels for aviation and waterborne transport. The Alliance has launched an open call for members, inviting industry, public authorities, civil society and other relevant actors to join. With this initiative, the European Commission continues to deliver on sustainability commitments under the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy and the European Green Deal.

50% reduction target for road deaths and serious injuries
|
|
The EU has set a 50% reduction target for road deaths and serious injuries by 2030. Preliminary figures on road fatalities for 2021 show that an estimated 19 800 people were killed in a road crash in the EU last year. The figures show that this is 13% fewer fatalities compared to pre-pandemic 2019, but still 19 800 too many. The last decade saw a fall of 36% in EU-wide road deaths.
