European Commission adopts new report on developing the rail market

The sixth Rail Market Monitoring Report (RMMS), adopted last week, gives an overview of the main developments in the European rail sector. It shows that rail passenger traffic continued to grow by 1.7 % per year between 2009 and 2011, while rail freight traffic has not yet risen to the volumes seen prior to the economic crisis. The report provides the latest facts and figures, e. g. on the degree of market opening in the Member States, the total length of the network, and statistics on employment and social conditions in the rail sector.
