Biotechnology SMEs contributing to the shift from a fossil-fuel-based economy with innovative processes and products are getting a helping hand with a voucher scheme in the Netherlands.

The vouchers allow SMEs to develop or scale up their work and give them access to the Biotech Campus Delft. They can apply for three kinds of vouchers: establishment, growth, and pilot.

The first category is for SMEs who need facilities such as a field lab or bioprocessing facility to develop a business case. This voucher covers 50 % of the eligible costs, excluding VAT, up to a maximum of EUR 15 000.

Growth vouchers are for those who need help solving a problem with a product or process, or support with final research work before pilot trials. Here 100 % of eligible costs, excluding VAT, are covered, up to a maximum of EUR 15 000.

Lastly, pilot vouchers are intended for those SMEs ready to produce the first batch of a product or test a process using industrial, instead of laboratory, equipment. This covers 50 % of eligible costs up to a maximum of EUR 50 000.

The Operational Programme ERDF West Netherlands aims to use this system to stimulate research and development of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.
