According to the ‘Oil Slightly Different’ ERDF-funded project, KOTO Ltd, one litre of waste cooking oil can produce up to 0.9 litres of biodiesel – an organic fuel.

Considering the polluting properties of waste cooking oil when it is not disposed of properly, and the issues it can cause for drainage systems, the ERDF is financing an information, education and collection programme to recycle this high-value waste.

Containers for cooking oil have been distributed to students in schools, street collection bins have been placed across several regions, and informational visits are being paid to schoolchildren on the subject.

The project raises awareness of this issue among parents, relatives, and neighbours by encouraging children to actively contribute to a cleaner environment, at home, locally, and further afield.
