Dear Reader,

November 2023 turned out to be again a very important month in the history of our Unit. A political agreement has been made between the Council and the European Parliament on our Commission proposal for an Interoperable Europe Act. This paves the way for the transformation of our proposal into EU Law. In sum, the first real EU legislation for a fundamentally reinforced European interoperability policy is almost here!

In addition, November 2023 was the month in which we celebrated the 15th anniversary of the European Commission’s Open Source Observatory (OSOR) and its dedicated European Open Source Community. ‘OSOR Turns 15’ showed to be a very vibrant event, with a full conference room of more than 250 people. Alongside discussions about the past and future of Open Source, the conference was also the place in which the winners of the prestigious OSOR Awards were announced. A new article discusses some of the highlights of the event.

Regarding SEMIC 2023, the other flagship event of our unit, a report has been released that gives you a more detailed look into the exchanges of ideas that took place (in October in Madrid).

We hope you enjoy reading these and other items. With no monthly newsletter for the month of December, we would like to send you and those closest to you already our merry and healthy wishes for the winter holidays. We hope to see you again in what no doubt will be an exciting new year!

Kind Regards,

The DG DIGIT unit for Interoperability and Digital Government
