Public consultation on postponement of harmonised rules for submitting information to poison centres

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on a draft regulation postponing the first compliance date of harmonised rules on the information on hazardous chemical mixtures. Companies have to submit this data to national poison centres to allow the provision of adequate emergency health response.

The draft regulation proposes to postpone the first compliance date from 1 January 2020 to 1 January 2021.

This is mainly due to the fact that, in the course of companies’ and public authorities’ preparation for compliance with the obligation to submit the appropriate data on hazardous chemical mixtures, strong concerns on the workability of some aspects of the rules were raised. The Commission is currently examining these issues to propose solutions. Once solutions are decided, companies and public authorities will need time to adjust to the harmonised rules. The postponement of the first compliance date would allow them to be ready in time. Until the first compliance date, the current national rules would continue applying.

The other 2 compliance dates of the harmonised rules would remain unaffected by the draft regulation.
