Today's proposals aim to boost an EU-wide market for investment funds offering investors greater choice for investing their savings. Another proposal will promote the EU market for covered bonds as a source of stable and cost-effective funding for banks. An EU Covered Bond label will help investors to choose safe covered bonds. Finally, more legal certainty will be created when a creditor transfers his right to claim a debt to another person or a bank in another EU country. This will help companies of all sizes to obtain credit. The proposals build on the progress that has already been made since the launch of the capital markets union in 2015. The goal of the CMU is to mobilise and channel capital to businesses and long-term infrastructure investments in the EU – including SMEs, which need resources to expand and thrive.
