EU budget: Commission proposes to increase LIFE funding by almost 60%
|
The Commission has proposed a budget of €5.45 billion for the LIFE programme for 2021-2027. The new programme will be simple and flexible with more focus on clean energy and nature and biodiversity. Support for the circular economy and climate change mitigation will continue.

One thousand new concepts for LIFE projects
|
Applicants have submitted more than 1 000 concept notes for traditional LIFE projects under the Environment sub-programme. In total, they are seeking nearly €1.8 billion euros in funding from LIFE. The projects will learn if they have been shortlisted in October.

ESC gives volunteers a chance to 'Choose Nature'
|
Camilla Zuretti is one of the first 150 volunteers taking part in a pilot nature conservation project for the European Solidarity Corps (ESC). Ms Zuretti has always been interested in nature, and when her friends told her about the volunteering opportunity at the Choose Nature (CHOO-NA!) project she decided to get involved right away.

September deadline for LIFE Climate Action proposals
|
Applicants to the LIFE sub-programme for Climate Action have until 12 September 2018 to submit their full proposals for traditional LIFE projects. Action grants are available for climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation and climate governance and information projects.

Clean Sea Life sounded the alarm about millions of small plastic discs washing ashore in south-west Italy. The LIFE project is monitoring the situation, organising beach clean-ups, and using the incident to study the movement of marine litter.

The marine environment is very important for Spain. LIFE-IP INTEMARES is developing management plans for Spanish marine protected areas that cover an area about the size of Austria. This includes actions to tackle the impact of overfishing, waste at sea, maritime traffic and pressures from tourism.

As solar and wind power grow cheaper, the core challenge of climate change is shifting from generating clean energy to storing it. With support from LIFE, Swedish SME SaltX has demonstrated a technology that locks sunlight inside the chemical bonds of salt crystals.
