EBNS 2021: Scaling up business action for nature - Registration is open!
Business leaders and policymakers will meet on 30 November and 1 December at the 2021 European Business and Nature Summit (EBNS) - a high-level political and technical forum - to capitalise on the growing awareness that businesses impact and depend on nature and the ecosystem services it provides. They will aim to mobilise the business community and strengthen the European "Business for Biodiversity movement" called upon by the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. Confirmed speakers include: Virginijus Sinkevičius, EU Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries; Jean-Laurent Bonnafé, CEO BNP Paribas; Catherine MacGregor, CEO Engie; Ilham Kadri, CEO Solvay; Patrick Pouyanné, CEO TotalEnergies; Jean-Bernard Levy, CEO EDF; Magali Anderson, CSO Holcim. EU B@B webinar series on biodiversity data - last two sessions on 26 and 28 October

Business and finance interest in measuring biodiversity performance is growing rapidly, driven by the need to better inform risk assessments and decision-making across industry sectors. The EU Business @ Biodiversity Platform aims to respond to the demand for more clarity on biodiversity data by offering a full webinar series on biodiversity data for businesses. In the last two sessions of the webinar series, the focus will be on innovative developments in the field of biodiversity data collection (26 Oct) and future development in the biodiversity data landscape (28 October).

Launch of the Extractive Sector Species Protection Code of Conduct

On 28 October 2021, BirdLife International and the EU Business@Biodiversity Platform, in cooperation with HeidelbergCement AG, will launch the Extractive Sector Species Protection Code of Conduct. Seeking to build on the provisions of the EU’s Birds and Habitats Directives, and without conflicting with EU law, the Code of Conduct demonstrates the Extraction Sector’s commitment to conserving nature through the implementation and management of temporary habitats. Join the live launch event with representation by the signatory associations and endorsement of the European Commission.

New quarterly update of the Guide on Biodiversity Measurement Approaches

The Finance and Biodiversity Community (F@B Community) and workstream Methods, both part of the EU Business@Biodiversity Platform, and the Finance for Biodiversity Foundation have prepared the next quarterly update of the "Finance for Biodiversity: Guide on biodiversity measurement approaches." The guide provides a comprehensive overview of the six tools for measuring biodiversity currently in use by financial institutions: CBF, BFFI, STAR, GBSFI, BIA and ENCORE.

New Platform in Ireland to help businesses take action for biodiversity

Minister of State for Heritage Malcolm Noonan TD and Minister of State for Land-Use and Biodiversity Senator Pippa Hackett have announced joint departmental backing for a national Business and Biodiversity Platform to help the private sector take practical, measurable actions to address the biodiversity crisis.

The Transparent Project seeks companies to pilot its methodology

The Transparent project is developing a standardized natural capital accounting and valuation methodology that provides decision-makers with the information to generate long-term value and to improve business resilience and an overview of impacts and dependencies of businesses on the environment, communities and society. The project is now looking for businesses to pilot the methodology. Piloting businesses will be supported by the Transparent team and will gain insights into their impacts and dependencies on natural capital and how this information can inform decision-making processes.
