Editorial

Dear EU islands community,

Another inspiring edition of the Clean energy for EU islands forum is now behind us—and what a remarkable event it was! In the past years, the forum has truly become the flagship event for the EU islands community.

On behalf of the secretariat, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants for making the event an impactful forum, engaging in and driving discussions. From insightful presentations and expertly moderated thematic sessions to engaging site visits and vibrant networking opportunities, we hope islanders were able to derive the most essential takeaways for them. The presence of so many passionate islanders and committed island friends made the event even more special.

This year’s forum was not only a celebration of progress but also a catalyst for future action. The dedication and resilience of island communities continue to inspire us, especially as they navigate the unique challenges of remoteness, limited resources, and environmental vulnerability—all while advancing their clean energy transitions with unwavering determination.

Each year, the forum welcomes more participants, more voices, and more momentum. This growth is a testament to the value the forum brings—not just to EU islands, but also to observers and partners from around the world who come to learn from our collective journey.

As we close the chapter on the 2025 forum, we’re already looking ahead. The path to 100% renewable islands is ambitious, but with the strength of this community, it’s absolutely within reach.

For a full recap of the Forum, including highlights and key takeaways, visit the official event page here.

Let’s keep the momentum going!

 Kind regards,

Alejandro Ulzurrun, Head of Unit – Consumers, Local Initiatives, Just Transition, and your Clean energy for EU islands team
