Third meeting of the Equality Platform for the Energy Sector
Making workplaces more diverse and inclusive means addressing all types of discrimination. In the third meeting of the Equality Platform for the Energy Sector, the members and signatories met in September in Brussels to discuss anti-discriminatory and inclusive practices towards the LGBTQ+ community in attracting, managing, and retaining talent in the energy sector.

The avid engagement of the participants showed there is a willingness and a need to learn more about the topic and to devise concrete strategies aiming at increasing diversity and eliminating discrimination in workplaces. Read the meeting conclusions here.

The presentations from the meeting are available at the Equality Platform’s Wiki here.

Energy Community Just Transition Forum
On Thursday, 4th of October, the Energy Community Secretariat hosted the Just Transition Forum in Skopje.

Fighting climate change is at the top of the political agenda of the Energy Community. Decarbonization ambitions materialised through the establishment of 2030 climate and energy targets for the Energy Community and its Contracting Parties. Focus is now put on the implementation of the Clean Energy Package, together with integrated national and climate plans.

Moreover, the newly adopted EU Regulation on carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM), and the necessary decision to be taken by the Contracting Parties on an EU aligned carbon pricing, will inevitably further anchor just transition in the policy discourse. This applies to the discussion on instruments needed to achieve the green transition while protecting the most vulnerable.

Against this background, the Forum concentrated on tackling key aspects of just transition. The Just Transition Forum constitutes an invitation to a dialogue in all these areas with different stakeholders from the national and local governments, IFIs, representatives of trade unions NGOs, Academia. LGBTIQ Equality Strategy 2020-2025
The European Commission adopted on 12 November 2020 the LGBTIQ Equality Strategy 2020-2025 (in all EU languages).

This is the first-ever Commission strategy on LGBTIQ equality and delivers on the European Commission s commitment to building a Union of Equality. It strives to build a Union where diversity is celebrated as part of our collective richness, where all people can be themselves without risk of discrimination, exclusion or violence.

The Strategy marks a new phase in our efforts to promote equality for LGBTIQ people while continuing to focus on priority areas. It sets out a series of measures to step up action, to integrate LGBTIQ equality in all policy areas and to help lift the voices of LGBTIQ minorities. It aims at bringing together Member States and actors at all levels in a common endeavour to address LGBTIQ discrimination more effectively by 2025.

Share the information about the Platform across your networks and inside your organisations!
The Equality Platform for the energy sector is a growing initiative, welcoming new members and signatories on an ongoing basis. Feel free to share information about the platform across your networks and inside your organisations. The below info-pill may be useful for your communication channels.

The European Commission set up the Equality platform for the energy sector with an overall aim of strengthening the commitment to equality in all its dimensions, notably by promoting more diverse and inclusive workplaces. The Platform functions as a forum to discuss equality-related issues and share concrete actions contributing to equality in the energy sector. The Platform brings together committed companies, institutions, organisations, and groups eager to make workplaces in the energy sector equally accessible and friendly to all interested workers.

The Platform is made of legal entities, but at the heart of it are individuals who often take it on themselves to promote equality and diversity in their spare time, on top of their regular commitments. We are proud to include established and emerging industry leaders, think tanks, and associations driven by the ambition to promote equality and equity, public institutions, and former and present members of governments. Importantly, our members are not only committed to making the energy sector diverse and inclusive, but they are often at the forefront of the industry's green transformation, leading and tapping into sustainable approaches to generating and distributing energy.
