SRI Platform 3rd Plenary Meeting: a reminder to register !

The SRI platform is an exchange forum involving building professionals interested in the SRI, and more generally in smart and efficient buildings. Its plenary meetings contribute to the promotion of the SRI and related best practices, by bringing together all interested stakeholders and EU countries to discuss technical, regulatory and implementation aspects of the SRI. This 3rd plenary meeting aims to provide an update about the SRI on EU policy and an overview of key activities conducted by the SRI support team. Each of the three SRI working groups will update participants on their work and achievements, and representatives of the new LIFE projects will report on their progress to date. Final results from surveys conducted on the SRI assessment package and on the needs of EU countries will also be shared with the audience.

Important: please note that the meeting time and exact location have been updated.

A survey to support Member States to implement the SRI

As more EU Member States begin SRI test phases the European Commission is looking to provide support to help Member States with their implementation of the SRI. As part of this process the SRI support team is seeking input from the SRI community about the most useful assistance that could be provided to Member States.

Accordingly, an online survey has just been opened that is seeking the input of professionals who have been considering the SRI and the needs of Member States to implement it successfully in their jurisdictions. All members of the SRI community are encouraged to provide their thoughts by completing the survey at this link.

The deadline for its completion is : 23 March 2023. All contributions are welcome and confidentiality and GDPR will be respected. Thank you for your help!

Provisional guidance on the implementation of the SRI

The European Commission supports a harmonised implementation of the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) across the Member States (MS) who voluntarily opt to implement it. This document, is an output of the activities of the SRI support team, and aims to provide provisional guidance on the implementation of the SRI during the period when Member States may opt to conduct test phases. At a future date the European Commission may prepare formal guidance on the implementation of the SRI informed by the experience accrued during the national test phases. The current version presents guidance that draws upon the knowledge of the SRI technical support team and some experience already relayed through provisional MS testing.

SRI digital calculation tools
Several initiatives are currently being implemented to develop digital tools to support the implementation of SRI assessments, and provide complementary SRI-related services to improve the smartness of buildings.

Non-confidential information about these initiatives is provided in this page of the SRI website.

“SRI-explained”: a focus on cooling & dynamic building envelopes
SRI is a common EU scheme for rating the smart readiness of buildings across nine technical domains.

🧊 Cooling is the fastest growing use of energy in buildings.
🪟 Dynamic building envelope technologies include for instance dynamic shading systems, or advanced smart windows such as electrochromic glazing.

Get a closer look at these two SRI technical domains in our latest SRI-explained factsheets, with examples on how smart controls can help achieving reduced energy demand, increased comfort, convenience, and flexibility for the grid. You will find all available factsheets, as well as further useful implementation tools, on this page.

News and updates on the implementation of the smart readiness indicator (SRI) under the energy performance of buildings directive (EPBD).
