Join a new webinar series! The series “Just energy transitions in the Western Balkans and Ukraine” will explore opportunities and lessons learnt on the way to coal phase-out. In considering how to make a just energy transition a reality, the series takes a coal regions viewpoint and analyses examples from the EU, Western Balkans and Ukraine. Each webinar will feature several experts working on implementing just energy transitions, including representatives from the coal regions in focus. 

The webinar series is part of the Initiative for coal regions in transition in the Western Balkans and Ukraine and covers the following topics:

  • 9 March: Planning for a just transition in light of energy (in)security

  • 30 March: Engaging stakeholders in just transition planning: who and how?

  • 27 April: Energy transition and air quality: solutions and good practices

  • 25 May: Opportunities to finance energy transitions

  • 14 June: Regions seizing coal phase-out as an opportunity for economic development

  • 6 July: Lessons learnt when switching from coal to renewables

All webinars will take place from 15:00–16:00 CET/CEST.

Speakers:  

The webinar will examine how security of supply (SoS) and energy transitions are intertwined, and which options for achieving SoS in the medium and long term are currently the most pragmatic. It will also look into how coal regions can actively manage their own transitions, and what approaches ensure that these transitions are just and maximise benefits for regional socio-economic development
