Phasing out or phasing down?

COP 26 is over and what have we learned and achieved? We have followed the top-level negotiations with the EU pushing for ambitious agreements. We heard that for Tuvalu and the Maldives the difference between 1.5 or 2 degrees Celsius is the difference between life and death. We have seen that for many developing nations their perceived reliance and importance on fossil fuels seems of utmost importance. We saw that when national interests are placed in comparison over international necessity, diplomatic efforts become ever more important to meet the scale of the climate crisis.

We feel hopeful when young people and NGOs join both the sessions at COP as well as on the streets – giving support to a growing movement. It has not all been just talks and the Smart Cities Marketplace was proud to be one of the numerous initiatives supporting down-to-earth sessions on how to provide the practical means for achieving a sustainable transition.

Cheers! Your Smart Cities Marketplace team
