Editorial

Dear EU islands community,

Now that the European summer season is coming to an end, we can start looking forward to an autumn full of Clean energy for EU islands activities. We will see the start of a number of exciting online activities, including podcasts, postcards, and the publication of our technology solution booklet, to further guide islands in their energy transition. Over summer we have strengthened the secretariat’s community approach, including a new website, and prepared the Clean energy for EU islands marketplace, our instrument to match island projects with supporting organisations. Definitely have a look below on how to participate! In autumn, our experts will also continue their support to the islands that receive the secretariat’s technical assistance.

Explore, Shape & Act: The Story

After spending some time at the beach, Sophie decides to show the island to Anna by bike. The two girls cycle through a tranquil forest until they reach a big opening. "Look, there! A solar farm!" Sophie says. The island is not only using wind power to supply energy to the residents but also solar power. The houses close to the solar farm even have their own solar panels to generate electricity or heat.

Sophie is stunned at how the island uses as much of its natural resources as possible to save emissions. While she is still thinking of ways her hometown could use clean energy technologies, Sophie proposes: "Do you want to bike to my grandma?" Of course, Anna's answer is. "Yeah!" because Sophie has been telling her so many cool stories about her grandma. Anna is excited to finally meet her in person!
