A few months after the abolition of India’s Intellectual Property Appellate Board (IPAB), the Delhi High Court has announced the creation of an Intellectual Property Division (IPD) with special benches created to hear matters including IP related lawsuits, revocation of applications, cancellation of applications and appeals from the Indian IP Office. Local experts say the constitution of such a court “will help” to fill gaps created by the ending of the IPAB, the main question remains, if sufficient manpower will be allocated to ensure the new division is effective.

The Department Related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce in India has recently published a "Review of the Intellectual Property Rights Regime in India". The more than 150 pages report analyses the overall IPR regime in India and its contribution in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in the country. Moreover, it takes a look at the challenges in strengthening the IPR regime, and addresses related procedural and substantive constraints as well as other legal aspects.
