MSCA Doctoral Networks 2023: Apply now!
Commission opens €434.8 million call for Doctoral Networks

MSCA Doctoral Networks provide support to partnerships of organisations from different socio-economic sectors across Europe and beyond to implement doctoral programmes. The aim is to train highly skilled doctoral candidates, stimulate their creativity, enhance their innovation capacities and boost their employability in the long-term. This call will fund over 130 projects in all scientific fields and the training and skills development of 1600 doctoral candidates.

Opening soon: MSCA and Citizens 2023 call

The 2023 call for MSCA and Citizens scheme will open on 20 June 2023. This funding round will dedicate € 15.4 million to fund around 50 projects organising two successive editions of the European Researchers’ Night in 2024 and 2025 and the implementation of the Researchers at Schools activities during over the two-year period.

Commission opens €260 million call for Postdoctoral Fellowships

Postdoctoral Fellowships give researchers holding a PhD the chance to gain new skills and experience whilst carrying out their own research project abroad. The call is open to researchers of any nationality and applications in any scientific field. These Fellowships include European Fellowships, which allow researchers to carry out a personalised project in the EU or countries associated to Horizon Europe, and Global Fellowships, open to European nationals or long-term residents wishing to work with organisations in third countries before returning to Europe.

MSCA Staff Exchanges: €77.5 million for international research cooperation projects

The Commission will fund 73 projects selected under the 2022 call for MSCA Staff Exchanges, with a budget of €77.5 million. Selected consortia will promote cooperation between academic and non-academic organisations in the EU and around the globe to boost innovation and knowledge transfer. Through Staff Exchanges, organisations can form international partnerships with other leading organisations, strengthen long-term collaborations and increase their capacities.

European Innovation Council Transition Challenges call - opportunities for MSCA projects in 2023

EIC Transition funds innovation activities that go beyond the experimental proof of principle in laboratory. In 2023, the “EIC Transition Challenges” call is open for the first time to proposals building on results from Horizon 2020 or Horizon Europe funded projects, including MSCA projects. With a budget of €60.5 million, this call will support projects in the fields of full scale Micro-Nano-Bio devices for medical and medical research applications, environmental intelligence and chip-scale optical frequency comb.

Following a very well received joint pilot matchmaking event in 2022, the MSCA and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) are organising the second edition of the Science-policy matchmaking event, which will take place on 20 June 2023. The event will bring researchers and policymakers together to discuss the opportunities that the MSCA provide for researchers to spend a short secondment or placement at a public administration body.

An innovative MSCA project fights plastic pollution

On World Environment Day, we featured MSCA and other Horizon Europe projects that tackle the growing problem of plastic pollution. Aligned with the European Green Deal, the Postdoctoral Fellowship project REMIPLASWAS seeks to sustainably remove microplastics from wastewater without using harmful chemicals for the environment. REMIPLASWAS uses microorganisms to transform organic matter for the successful extraction of microplastic pollutants.
