Digital Day 2021: Europe to reinforce internet connectivity with global partners

At Digital Day 2021, 25 Member States, as well as Iceland and Norway, committed to reinforcing internet connectivity between Europe and its partners in Africa, Asia, the European neighbourhood, the Western Balkans and Latin America, by signing the Declaration on “European Data Gateways as a key element of the EU’s Digital Decade”.

EU:Africa hackathon looking for participants to jumpstart cross-continent Innovation

The EU:Africa online hackathon is seeking innovative solutions to socio-economic problems in Africa that have been amplified by the COVID-19 crisis. In the spirit of #TeamEurope, Estonia and the African Union teamed up with Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg and Poland to organise the online cross-continental hackathon “EU-Africa: The Post Crisis Journey”. Iplemented by Garage48 and Smart Africa, the design sprint-like event will take place on 10-13 December 2020. The recruitment of participants and mentors has already started.

11th EU-Brazil Digital Economy Dialogue — Joint statement

On 26 November 2019, the European Commission hosted the 11th EU-Brazil Digital Economy Dialogue in Brussels. The dialogue was an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of the 12-year Strategic Partnership between the EU and Brazil, to recognise the achievements of the bilateral cooperation on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Digital Transformation and to deepen this fruitful partnership.

Study on market analysis of roaming tariffs of telecom operators in the Western Balkans

The purpose of this call for tenders is to carry out a report to perform analysis of telecom markets in Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, Serbia and The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) by identifying all mobile operators active in the region and examining actual retail roaming prices for services they offer to their customers (study reference: SMART 2019/0008).

The EU and ASEAN: Building stronger digital economy & connectivity cooperation

On 23 October 2019, the European Commission – represented by DG Communication Networks, Content and Technology (Connect) – met ASEAN senior officials in Vientiane (Lao PDR) to exchange and discuss digital economy & connectivity and advance EU-ASEAN digital cooperation. This was the 12th occasion for such a dialogue in the context of the annual meetings of the ASEAN telecommunications and IT ministers (TELMIN) and senior officials (TELSOM).

Summary of the Digital4Med Conference

This event was organised by the European Commission on 8 April 2019 as the first step towards developing a connectivity and data strategy for the Southern Mediterranean countries (South Med). It gathered 200 participants from governmental and private organisations from the North and South of the Mediterranean. The conference discussed how the changes brought by the EU's Digital Single Market offer the opportunity to put our relationship with the South Med on a new footing, focusing on areas that can have the biggest impact and where the EU has relevant experience and demonstrated expertise.

New Africa-Europe Digital Economy Partnership - report of the EU-AU Digital Economy Task Force

The European Union-African Union Digital Economy Task Force (EU-AU DETF) provides a platform of partnership for the private sector, donors, international organisations, financial institutions and civil society based on a shared understanding of how an already fast evolving African digital transformation can achieve cross-border integration, and bring benefits to all citizens. During 6 months, the EU-AU DETF developed a shared vision, a set of common agreed principles and a list of policy recommendations and actions focusing on four main objectives. 16th Information Society Dialogue between the United States and the European Union - Joint statement

On May 23, 2019, the United States of America hosted the 16th U.S.-EU Information Society Dialogue (ISD) in Washington, D.C. Robert Strayer, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Cyber and International Communications and Information Policy, U.S. Department of State, and Roberto Viola, Director General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT), European Commission, co-chaired the dialogue.
