For many years to come, competitive markets will still be the best way to meet consumers’ needs – low prices, wide choice, and innovative products. And to make sure those markets work well, we’ll still need competition rules.

Commission approves alternative to divestment commitment for Royal Bank of Scotland
|
The European Commission has approved under EU State aid rules the alternative package proposed by the UK authorities to replace the commitment for Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) to divest Williams & Glyn. The alternative package will increase competition in the UK SME banking market.

C‑300/16 P - European Commission vs. Frucona Košice a.s.
|
The Commission takes note and will carefully study the Court of Justice's judgement confirming the annulment of the Commission's decision of October 2013 concerning Frucona Košice. The judgment fully confirms the findings of the General Court judgment of March 2016 and its interpretation of the burden of proof for the Commission in case of a private creditor test. The Commission will analyse in detail the arguments of the Court of Justice to be able to determine its further course of action in the case at hand and to consider general implications for future cases involving market economy operator test.
