Seasonal flu: book your jab with eHealth

There are benefits to getting a flu jab even if a flu vaccine will not protect you from COVID-19. As they share similar symptoms, it could reduce those symptoms that might be confused with the coronavirus. All active staff can request and receive a flu jab. The booking system in Brussels is now open.

Cyber Security Month

The DIGIT info and training sessions focus on “Cyber Secure from Home” (preventing cyber incidents and threats), “Cyber First Aid” (what to do if one is victim of a cyberattack). There is also a Secure Code Warrior tournament throughout this month. Check out the agenda and practical tips.

Advanced Materials for Defence Applications

On Wednesday, the European Network of Defence Related Regions, together with the Commission and the Swedish Security and Defence Industry Association, held an online conference on the use of Advanced Materials for Defence Applications.

DEFIS colleagues Elektra Tsigaridas and Gustaf Winroth explained the financing opportunities under specific calls open for advanced materials through the European Defence Fund and the Horizon Europe programme.

Galileo SAR: Mass rescue operation takes place in the Arctic Circle

To ensure preparedness in case of emergency, local authorities often conduct exercises and drills. On 8 October, Galileo Search & Rescue was at the forefront of the AMRO 2021 (Arctic Mass Rescue Operation), a full-scale live exercise organised by the Norwegian authorities. The scenario surrounded a cruise ship that caught on fire with around 200 passengers on board

Security tip: sharing large files safely

How many times have you tried to send a large file (>10MB) to a colleague by email, only to have to have it bounce because the file was too big, requiring you to find another tool? There are several corporate tools available that you can use to send large files.

DG DIGIT explains the different tools you can use, and their specific features.

Data cubes: Enabling and facilitating Earth Observation applications

The volumes of data provided by EO are significant. Transferring and storing large quantities of data is never easy, and that is where data cubes are extremely helpful. Generally, data cubes are multidimensional matrices in which data are grouped or combined. Not only data cubes present data in a multidimensional way, they also allow pre-processing and fast access to summarised data.

Launching the world's first vehicle using fossil-free steel

Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton unveiled the first fossil-free steel vehicle, a world premiere by Volvo, SSAB and Ovako groups. “A European success”, declared Commissioner Breton. “With innovative solutions, Sweden is leading decarbonisation of the EU industry.” On his two-day visit, beside meeting with industry representatives (Northvolt, H2 Green Steel), Commissioner Breton had bilateral discussions with Swedish Ministers Mikael Damberg (Home Affairs), Anders Ygeman (Energy and Digital Development), Anna Hallberg (Trade).

“Energy crisis and dependencies: we must anticipate the transition”

“The current energy crisis in the European Union is a wake-up call about our dependence on imported fossil fuels”, write Commissioner Breton in his latest blog post. “Let's not wait for the next shortage to reduce our strategic dependencies. Here are the priorities we are already working on.”

Énergies : « l’UE va encourager la baisse des taxes »

La Commission européenne va inciter les États à baisser les taxes sur l'énergie et à redistribuer les bénéfices de la hausse des prix aux plus démunis grâce à différents outils à leur disposition, a déclaré lundi le commissaire au Marché intérieur au micro de France Inter.

Le Commissaire Thierry Breton a ajouté que Bruxelles allait "inciter (chaque État) à baisser ces taxes pour redistribuer aux plus défavorisés".

Future of Europe: Citizens discuss the role of EU in the world in EP hemicycle

The first meeting of the 4th European Citizens’ Panel kicks off today. It focuses on EU in the world and migration. Some 200 citizens participating in the panel will start their deliberations based on contributions to the Multilingual Digital Platform.

In this vein, it is worth recalling that the ideas posted by citizens under the topic “EU in the world” encompassed the creation of more specialized forces at EU level and more cooperation between Member States on defence.

5-7 November: EU Space applications for the Arctic

10 locations, one exciting hackathon! The CASSINI Hackathons and Mentoring are a pan-European series that tackle global challenges using European space technologies. For its second edition the hackathon provides access to pre-processed Arctic data, on-demand training and other valuable tools to help participants take on one of three challenges.

Awards will go to the best ideas at both local and EU levels. The top winners will gain entry into a six-month mentoring programme.

Meeting room solutions for hybrid work
