The European Commission has opened an in-depth investigation to assess whether measures in favour of Ryanair at the German airport of Frankfurt-Hahn are in line with State aid rules. The Commission will also investigate certain measures in favour of the airport operator FFHG.

The European Commission has approved under EU State aid rules a German scheme to support railway companies that invest in energy efficiency technologies. The measure will promote the shift of freight traffic from road to rail and contribute to a reduction of CO2 emissions.
The European Commission has concluded that the exemption for certain large electricity users in Germany from network charges in 2012-2013 was against EU State aid rules. There were no grounds to fully relieve those users from paying network charges. Germany now has to recover the illegal aid.
