Juncker talks to citizens, DG COMM backs up with solid reading matter

Jean-Claude Juncker was seemingly not afraid of anything: just three days after the terrorist attacks in Paris, the Commission President honoured his commitment to attend a Citizens' Dialogue in central Brussels. For one hour, President Juncker listened to the audience, answered their questions and had a frank and forthright exchange of views on the issues of most concern to the majority of Europeans. In the city's beautiful 'Bozar' concert hall, designed by Belgium's famous architect Victor Horta, around 850 citizens were given the opportunity to meet the Commission's highest representative. Out in the lobby, DG COMM's Citizens' Information Unit handed out some of the Commission's publications to participants.

Understanding the EU – promotional bookmarks

"We should better promote Commission publications", said Ierotheos Papadopoulos, head of unit of the Citizens' information sector when he took up his new position in September. Well said, and well done: Bookmarks advertising the Commission's publications are amongst the first promotional products made available for Commission services and partners.

The European Union in 2015 – a different General Report

The General Report on the Activities of the European Union is currently being transformed into a shorter (100 pages), more interactive, and more citizen-friendly publication, entitled The European Union in 2015. It will be accompanied by a highlights brochure (16 pages). While the full report is foreseen for those who follow the EU most closely, the highlights brochure will be ideal for distributing to the general public via your mailing lists, events, and information points. Both publications will be published in March 2016.

“EU explained” series of booklets

What are the aims and the results of major EU policies? The “EU explained” series of booklets presents all existing EU policies to the general public. There are currently 32 titles available.

Basic stuff: general information on the EU

Travelling in Europe 2015-16

The most popular leaflet of all, with tangible information about how easy it is to travel in the EU. The leaflet includes a fold-out map of Europe.

How the EU works

Our classic, basic publication on the EU institutions. It contains an overview of the decision making process, and a chapter about each institution.

The EU in slides

"The EU in slides" is a selection of PowerPoint slides outlining the basics of what the European Union is, what it does, and how it works. They are a flexible aid for teachers and speakers giving presentations about the EU. They are open for editing - any of our multipliers can re-use the illustrations, graphs, or template. The content also shows a number of tangible advantages of the EU, as well as the more traditional subjects of EU history, treaties and institutions.

Let's explore Europe - educational booklet for 9-12 year olds

A booklet aimed at younger schoolchildren tells the story of Europe simply and clearly. It covers subjects ranging from nature and geography, to history and the EU more generally.

Europa. A journal for young people - educational booklet about the EU for 13-18 year olds

"Europe is somewhere else". This nonsensical yet provocative statement launches the first chapter of this brochure for young adolescents. We are of course in the middle of Europe and the brochure attempts to explain what that actually means. Who runs Europe? What impact does the European Union actually have on daily lives?

28 EU countries, 28 activities to draw, cut out, paste and play!

The Commission Representation in London has just produced a fun, colourful activity book that offers children from 7 to 11 the chance to learn about each of the 28 Member States. They can draw, colour, cut pictures out, play with the stickers and create their own designs.
