The trend is clear: the planet is warming🌍🌡️ The first days of February have proven to be the hottest on record since 1940, with surface air temperatures reaching over 13.5°C – something never before seen at this time of year. Human-induced climate change is driving up temperatures on land and in the ocean, with detrimental effects on people and planet. We need to make greater progress in fighting the climate crisis, while preparing for its consequences. Source: Copernicus ECMWF For more information, visit: https://lnkd.in/es4nM8R

🌡️🌍 According to data from the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service, last month was the hottest February ever recorded, with temperatures 1.77°C warmer than the pre-industrial average for that time of year. This marks the ninth consecutive month of record temperatures. The global sea-surface temperature outside of the polar regions also hit a new high of 21.06°C, surpassing the previous record of 20.98°C set in August 2023. We cannot ignore the impact of climate change on our planet. Let's take action to protect our environment. #climatechange #globalwarming #environment Source: The Economist

March 2024 continues the sequence of climate records toppling for both air temperature and ocean surface temperatures, with the 10th consecutive record-breaking month. The global average temperature is the highest on record, with the past 12 months being 1.58°C above pre-industrial levels. Stopping further warming requires rapid reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. We don't have any time to waste. Records are still continuing to break but are humans listening....?? 3 decades of IPCC early warnings got in vein so how much the COP's are being productive in terms of actions needs a relook. If simple science is not understood we are in for an very tuff and challenging times. Temperature crossing 1.58°C levels needs to be an alarming matter its future effects are catastrophic..... emission reduction is only the first step in this process. More Adaptation actions needed. #Hotdays #Risingtemperatures #Learn4climate #UNSSCforclimateaction #PACCDA2021 #PACCDA2022 #SPSD2021

This isn’t even climate modelling. This is just recorded data. And yet as a country we continue to fly for business and holidays, eat vast amounts of dairy and meat, and buy cheap imports from coal-powered economies. Over the last 30 years, successive governments have pledged action and yet the top 3 greenhouse gasses have continued to rise and are now at record levels. And the world continues to heat up. Is it not up to us business leaders and parents to now show leadership? To say - we can afford to continue as we are in the short term - but with severe long term consequences for the people in our care. So actually, it is up to us to change the narrative of what is expected and acceptable if we want a long term future for our families and businesses. We can’t continue as we are. Yes government actions around subsidies and taxation and imports are important and we should push for these - but business leaders need to step up and push back against quarterly and annual goals and start to think about long term sustainability. I might be naive but if we don’t start changing how we personally live, or run our companies what hope is there for keeping the impacts of climate change in check? Yes, our neighbours may fly more than we do, but that doesn’t mean we also have to contribute to climate change in the same way. I’d love to hear how your companies are changing the narrative on climate impacts? Anyone giving additional 2 days holiday for those taking low carbon transportation to their holiday instead of flying?

The world has breached 1.5° Celsius for an entire year; according to the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service. Last month marked the hottest January on record, with an average surface air temperature that was 0.70 degrees Celsius higher than the month’s average from 1991 to 2020.

Earth’s hottest month: The Nature article shows the charts of what happened in July and what comes next. > https://lnkd.in/eGvaUAgT Researchers think the world surpass the 1.5° rise in a matter of years, and around 2° of warming is likely even if governments were to meet their climate commitments. By now climate scientists think we could reach 3° in this century. The impact is horrendous.

We should all take part in Climate action since Earth's temperature has risen by approximately 0.08° C per decade since 1880, or about 2° F in total. Also, the rate of warming since 1981 is more that twice as fast: 0.32° F (0.18° C) per decade.

Why scientists say that #globalwarming is caused by human activities? The science on the human contribution to modern warming is quite clear. Humans emissions and activities have caused around 100% of the warming observed since 1950, according to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). Carbon Brief examined how each of the major factors affecting the Earth’s climate would influence temperatures in isolation – and how their combined effects almost perfectly predict long-term changes in the global temperature. 2moThe word "trend" is pregnant and important. Most likely read it as something continuing ahead... But as I have been saying for a long time, the TREND IS UPWARD and I often use the word MOMENTUM to try to express it more clearly for the community The meaning I have been trying to convey is often used in the financial and stock markets that there is a "power" behind the trend or momentum that is pushing it (the chart) upward, meaning in our #climatechange case is that it is GROWING WORSE, i.e., it is picking ever more speed upward and a trend in the case of our #climate is extremely difficult to slow it down, much less control it. The combination of the myriad facets compounding into the #climatecrisis is too great compared to what we little human beings (like ants) can do in magnitude (true large scale) and time Now there is a weird factor (before "off the cards") that will be adding to this compounding trend, Donald Trump becoming president of the United States. Beware!
