President von der Leyen and Executive Vice-President Šefčovič hold second Clean Transition Dialogue with energy-intensive industries

Tomorrow, President von der Leyen and Executive Vice-President Šefčovič will host the second clean transition dialogue focusing on energy-intensive industries. The President will give an opening speech and the Executive Vice-President, who leads this series of dialogues with European industry, will also give opening remarks.

After the dialogue focused on hydrogen in October, today Mr Šefčovič will meet with representatives of key energy-intensive industries, including metals, fertilisers, ceramic, cement, refineries, chemical products, glass, lime, waste, pulp and paper, as well as producers of clean energy and alternative energy carriers, providers and financial institutions.

They will discuss the challenges and opportunities of the green transition for these industries, which are a key pillar of the EU’s economy in terms of competitiveness and job creation, and have a crucial role to play in reaching the goals of the European Green Deal. The opening statements will be followed by specific sessions on different topics, notably on electrification and access to affordable and secure energy; investments for an green transition; increasing production capacity in Europe and how to encourage a market for decarbonised products in Europe.

As the President announced in her annual State of the Union speech, the Commission is organising a series of dialogues on the green transition to contribute to the implementation of the European Green Deal and support the decarbonisation of European industry.
