Alqueva Floating Solar Farm was awarded the European Sustainable Energy Award 2023 in the Innovation category. The park, whose elastic mooring system was funded by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF), brings together solar energy, hydropower and battery storage in an innovative scalable technology to reduce emissions and protect nature.

These 41 large-scale innovative clean tech projects have the potential to avoid 221 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in their first 10 years of operation. Located in 15 EU Member States and Norway, they cover a wide range of industries, such as cement, steel, advanced biofuels, sustainable aviation fuels, wind and solar energy, and renewable hydrogen and its derivatives.

On 26 June, CINEA hosted a ceremony to celebrate the symbolic handover of the grant agreement with the Antwerp@C CO2 Export Hub project, that will be co-funded under CEF Energy with EUR 144.6 million. The project aims to develop a world-scale open-access modular infrastructure for the transport, liquefaction, and export of CO2 captured by industries in the Antwerp port area.

The award-winning CarbFix projects, funded by Horizon 2020, continue to grab the headlines with growing global potential of CO2 mineralisation technology used. Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, Portuguese Prime Minister Costa and many more recently visited the projects that turn CO2 into stones.

With a grant of EUR 143 million from EU's Innovation Fund, the HYBRIT Demonstration project aims to put green steel on the market before 2030. The steel industry is one of Europe’s powerhouses, contributing some EUR 110 billion a year to European economy.

The Horizon 2020 funded project DTOceanPlus developed a series of open-source software tools to reduce the risks and costs associated with ocean tech development. The tools are already giving a boost to developers across the sector, supporting the EU’s transition away from fossil fuels.
