Commission’s core site: important instructions for web editors

It has been a few months since the Commission’s core site was migrated to the corporate platform (EWPP). You may notice a few changes as we work on some post-migration fixes and improvements. With this email, we’d like to keep you updated and share important tips for your daily work on the EC core site.

Instructions on the wiki
We have updated the EWPP user guide and the specific web editor instructions for the EC core site: Instructions for core site editors

The update includes things like:

  • Navigating the cms back office
  • Department page updates
  • Translation requests
  • Document updates

We will continue updating the specific instructions as needed. If you have suggestions for improvements, don’t hesitate to send them to europamanagement@ec.europa.eu

Here are some important things to bear in mind:

Your editorial group
It’s important to know that as an editor of the EC core site, you are part of an ‘Editorial Group’ named after your DG/Executive agency. It is within this group that you can find the pages that you are allowed to edit, and from where you create new content.

When logging in, you will find your group via the editing menu on top of the page. Once your group is selected, you will see all the content for your editorial group, which you have permission to edit. If you believe that one or more webpages are missing from your editorial group, please contact europamanagement@ec.europa.eu with the URL of the page(s) that need to be added.

Creating a new webpage
To create a new page, you will need to click on ‘Add new content’ from within your group.

IMPORTANT: Any new webpage must be positioned correctly in the site tree before it’s published (otherwise it will end up in the root of the website).

Translation reminder
Remember not to update the English version of a page while a translation request is in progress. You can check the status by clicking on the ‘Translation’ tab in the editing menu. Creating a new draft of a page may result in the translation request becoming stuck in the system. If you really must update the EN version of the page, make sure to resend it for a translation update right away.

Updating links
We also wish to remind you to check and, if necessary, correct any links you may have on your other sites that lead to:

Although page redirections were put in place when the EC core site migrated to EWPP, it is not the case for documents. A good practice is to update the links with the correct ones (starting with commission.europa.eu/ and not ec.europa.eu/info/).

Getting editor access
If new colleagues in your service need access to work as editors on the core site, they should follow this procedure: Get access to edit content on the European Commission core site
