Introducing the Blue Bioeconomy Forum

Dear reader, welcome to this first issue of the Blue Bioeconomy Forum Newsletter. Once every three months we will provide you with a recap of upcoming blue bioeconomy events, recent publications, and the best of our news articles, showcasing successful business stories, promising innovations and the latest advancements in the blue bioeconomy sectors. This summer edition presents our first outreach activity – we hope that a wide representation of the European blue bioeconomy sector will join the Forum and sign up for the newsletter as we identify new developments, opportunities, and challenges in the coming months. In this newsletter you will learn how Nordic countries strengthen the development of their blue bioeconomy through regional cooperation. We zoom in on how to sustainably harvest and apply marine molecules to tackle growing issues such as antibiotic resistance; we spoke with the teams of two EU-funded projects in this field: TASCMAR and NOMORFILM.

Grand Challenges in Marine Biotechnology

The book discusses recent advances and challenges in terms of science, technology, innovation, and policy for the development of the field; and how marine biotechnology may provide new solutions to some of the grand challenges faced by our society. Written in an accessible language, it provides an overview for all interested readers: for research scientists and biotechnologists from both academia and industry working in marine biotechnology and related disciplines, but also for decision-makers in government and non-governmental organisations in their efforts to foster the development of a global blue economy. Not in open access.
