EU Rural vision

To ensure future prosperity and wellbeing in the EU, it is crucial to address the challenges brought about by the demographic transition.

On 17 January Eurostat released its “Rural Europe” publication (together with the “Urban Europe" one), featuring subnational statistics with different territorial typologies and using intuitive visualisations, innovative data presentations and concise text.

The EU is going through important demographic transition, as underlined in the Commission Staff working document “The impact of demographic change – in a changing environment”, published on 17 January 2023.

“Looking across the world, rural communities tell us the story of a thousand of years of collaboration between nature and human society.*” It also tells us how heritage is profoundly linked to understanding the opportunities in rural areas.

The EU CAP network organised a workshop to raise awareness of the barriers and challenges faced by rural women regarding access to employment and entrepreneurship opportunities; access to services and infrastructure, and representation and participation in decision-making processes.
