Since 10 March 2022, those fleeing Ukraine due to the military invasion of the country by Russian armed forces have been able to apply for temporary protection status in Slovenia.
The Office for the Care and Integration of Migrants is currently located in an accommodation centre in Debeli rtič. It works to accommodate those with temporary protection, increasing housing capacities in accordance with the numbers of new arrivals. Reception takes place in the accommodation centre in Logatec, and from there individuals are taken to other accommodation centres - such as those in Jelšane, Gornja Radgona and Velenje - that have availability. The centre in Velenje is intended only for those traveling onwards to other countries, and who in Slovenia just need a place to rest.
After these accommodation centres are full, the office plans to make agreements with unoccupied housing funds, such as those in charge of student dormitories and centres for school and extracurricular activities, as well as other suitable state-owned facilities. Once all suitable, available state-owned spaces are fully occupied, the office will make a public appeal to find more locations for the accommodation of new arrivals.
