Report shows negative portrayal of immigrants in the Norwegian media


A report by the Norwegian Directorate of Integration and Diversity (IMDi) published on Tuesday shows the Norwegian media features a mainly negative portrayal of immigrants, with 71 per cent of all immigration- or integration-related coverage 'problem-oriented.' Little coverage is given to integration success stories.

IMDi Director Åsmund Kalheim emphasised the report's finding that negative media coverage of a particular group or nationality over time helps to create negative attitudes that can lead to increased discrimination.
