Portugal: Government guarantees service access for migrants with pending applications (Unofficial translation)
The Portuguese government extended until 30 April 2021 the 'situation of regular stay' for those migrants whose applications processes for residence have not yet been concluded by the Aliens and Borders Office. This measure - which aims to safeguard the rights of migrants with pending regularisation processes - was announced in a joint statement by the ministries of State and Presidency, Home Affairs, Labour, Solidarity and Social Security and Health.
The measure confirms that the documents these migrants currently possess will be enough to be granted access to all public services, namely those for obtaining a national health service user number or securing other healthcare rights, obtaining a social security identification number, accessing social support benefits, signing lease agreements, entering into employment contracts, opening bank accounts and contracting essential public services.
The descendants of migrants in this situation will also now be able to access family allowance, as long as their parents have started the regularisation process with the Aliens and Borders Office.
