New president of Slovakia interested in situation of migrants
Zuzana Čaputová, the newly elected president of Slovakia, is interested in the situation of the ethnic and national minorities—including migrants—in the country. At the beginning of June, she announced the establishment of an informal advisory committee which will provide her regular and comprehensive reflections on the rights of ethnic and national minorities.
During her presidential campaign, Čaputová declared her intent to be president for the entire country, including members of minority groups. This intent to gain a deeper understanding of the situation of minorities is now being transformed into practical steps.
The advisory committee will include experts from relevant fields in academia, government and the non-governmental sector. Čaputová will start her term on 15 June 2019.
