Malta: New befriending programme promotes integration

Flag of Malta

On 9 April, NGO Ħal Far Outreach launched the Malta Migrants Befriending Programme 2022, open to asylum seekers, refugees and Maltese citizens. The aim of the project is to help asylum seekers and refugees better integrate into Maltese society, by providing them with the opportunity to become friends and develop networks with Maltese locals.

Those that sign up for the 12-month programme will be paired with a Maltese local, and together they will engage in social activities including sport, walks, concerts, board games, cinema trips, and so on. Enjoying activities in tandem will facilitate the sharing of cultural and social interests on both sides, and help people develop closer bonds.

The programme is funded by the Voluntary Organisations Project Scheme, managed by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector on behalf of the Ministry for Social Inclusion and Wellbeing. Anyone interested in signing up as a participant or seeking further information can do so via the organisation's Facebook page, accessible here.
