Malta: New anti-racism platform launched

Flag of Malta

Following the launch of the first Maltese anti-racism strategy (2021-23) in October 2021, the Human Rights Directorate - a government entity - established the Anti-Racism Platform (ARP).

The aim of the civil-society-led ARP initiative is to build trust between communities and public authorities in Malta. Victims of racism, together with representatives of NGOs, international organisations, migrant community organisations, activists, and academics, will be monitoring the implementation of the strategy through the platform. During platform meetings, members will be able to discuss what is happening in Malta, make suggestions about how to tackle issues around racism, organise to raise concerns with the government, and speak publicly about the results of their collaboration.

A spokesperson for the platform said: “We want to support the government in meaningful implementation of the national anti-racism strategy, but as a ‘critical friend’, maintaining our autonomy and right of initiative as civil society.”

Requests to join or for further information about the platform can be sent via email to info@kopin.org.
