Greece: Asylum seekers allowed to register as unemployed


Vulnerable groups of the population which until now have been excluded because of the lack of an official permanent address have now the possibility to register as unemployed at the Manpower Employment Organisation (OAED) and the right to apply for social corresponding as social benefits.

Are included in new regulation are: homeless people living in the street or temporary in shelters, applicants for and beneficiaries of international protection and abused women and children living in special shelters for victims of violence.

In order to prove the place of residence, the unemployed migrants or refugees should provide a declaration from a temporary accommodation facility. Detailed instructions for registration are provided at the OAED web site.
