Dutch health minister Bruno Bruins told the parliament that he is shocked by discrimination toward people of Asian appearance due to COVID-19 (coronavirus). He gave his comments upon the invitation of GroenLinks MP Corinne Ellemeet, who told MPs that she had heard of numerous instances of discrimination.
Bruins condemned the discrimination, stating, ‘We have to make sure this does not gather steam … We all have a part to play in this.’ Bruins also stated that he did not plan to shut down locations that are popular with Chinese tourists.
