Belgium: New local projects promote migrant integration

Flag of Belgium

The Mindchangers project announced the names of 10 local-level initiatives in francophone Belgium to which it is dedicating funding in 2023.

Mindchangers is an EU-funded project that aims to improve the capacity of local authorities and civil society organisations to engage youth in and raise public awareness of climate change and migration issues. It is implemented in Belgium, Germany, Spain, France, Italy and Romania.

Five of the ten projects announced for Belgium will focus on migrant integration:

  • Hors-champ: a photography project aiming to portray migration from different perspectives
  • Youth at the microphone for a fairer world: a podcast interviewing migrants, citizens and experts on climate and migration
  • Terre de Diversité: a project that gathers young locals and newcomers to work together on environmental projects and ecological transition
  • Tournai le monde: a series of cultural activities organised by local youth, such as workshops and a festival, on the theme of migration
  • We Wiels: a project bringing together young people, unaccompanied migrant minors and senior citizens to work on artistic projects

Mindchangers is funded by the European Commission's Development, Education and Awareness Raising (DEAR) Programme. The project is coordinated by Regione Piemonte in partnership with Consorzio Ong Piemontesi (IT), Baden-Württemberg and SEZ (DE), RESACOOP (FR), La Rioja and CONGDCAR (ES), Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (BE), and the University of Craiova (RO).
