NIEM policy brief: Europe's patchwork of refugee integration policies: the EU action plan on integration and inclusion as an instrument to address deficiencies
This policy brief 'Europe's patchwork of refugee integration policies: the EU action plan on integration and inclusion as an instrument to address deficiencies' investigates the extent to which refugee integration policies are in line with the principles, values, and objectives of the 2021-2027 EU action plan on integration and inclusion. The paper was produced by the Migration Policy Group (MPG) within the framework of National Integration Evaluation Mechanism (NIEM).
The paper links the 2019 NIEM results from 14 EU countries to the new action plan and brings value as:
- policymakers and refugee integration stakeholders can use NIEM data to identify areas in which the new EU action plan and its concrete goals can help address policy gaps and needs;
- NIEM can be used as a tool to assess the completion of the new action plan in the coming years;
- Specific recommendations to the EC and EU countries suggest how to foster the implementation of the action plan.
The main takeaways of the brief was presented in a webinar on 17 September. The event included a discussion with a representative of the EC's Directorate-General Migration and Home Affairs, author of the action plan, as well as NIEM partners from Italy, Lithuania, Romania and Sweden. Watch the discussion about the reality of refugee integration policies in those NIEM countries and the opportunities presented by the action plan:
