The project Talk with Me: Voluntary Language Mentors for Young Refugees was developed by three partner organisations: Gemeinsam leben und lernen in Europa e. V. (Germany), Tulip Foundation (Bulgaria) and Centrul de Voluntariat Cluj-Napoca (Romania). The aim of the project is to improve the integration of refugees in different European countries and to support volunteers who are working with refugees on language learning. The partners’ hope is that their model for a volunteer language mentoring programme can be useful for other NGOs and help them set up their own mentoring programmes.
The project developed a set of handbooks in English, Romanian, Bulgarian and German:
- General survey of the refugee situation in Bulgaria, Germany, and Romania
- Project Manual: overall guidebook for organising a volunteer language mentoring programme
- Curriculum for language mentors: how to train volunteers for the language mentoring programme
- Manual for an information session for young refugees: information on how to conduct an introductory session for a volunteer language mentoring programme
- Manual for an intercultural training for young refugees: information on how to conduct intercultural training
- Manual for a multiplier event: how to inspire other organisations and volunteers to form volunteer language mentoring projects
- Toolbox: tips, ideas and information for volunteers to use with their language partners
