
According to the annual report recently published by the Institute of Health Information and Statistics of the Czech Republic (IHIS CR), in 2019 health care was provided to 127.6 thousand foreigners in 189 hospitals in the Czech Republic. The total cost of this health care was 1 085 billion CZK.
Of these foreigners, 60.7 thousand (48%) had EU citizenship. The most frequently treated patients were Slovakian (22%), Ukrainian (18%), Russian (7%) and German (7%). The most frequent method of payment for the care provided was through foreign health insurance (37%), and by cash (33%). Healthcare debts outstanding past the due date of payment amounted to 48 million CZK by the end of 2019 (4.4 % of the total cost).
