Slovakia: Improving municipal integration efforts
- Project or programme
Four major non-governmental organisations working in the area of migrant integration in Slovakia—Human Rights League, Centre for the Research of Ethnicity and Culture, Milan Šimečka Foundation and the Marginal—have implemented a new project, KapaCity, focused on improving the integration of third-country nationals at the municipal level. The project works with municipalities to develop and enhance the professional capacities of municipal actors in the integration of third-country nationals.
The main goals of the project are the complex capacity building of municipalities; exchange of good practices between local, regional and national level actors in Slovakia; improvement of the communication skills of municipalities in order to support inclusion of migrants and, last but not least, to ensure that services for migrants will become stable elements of municipal agendas. The project also aims to ensure that local actors will gain the knowledge to implement integration measures even after the project concludes.
The KapaCity project is scheduled to run until the end of 2020. The project is partnering with the Union of Towns and Cities of Slovakia and four municipalities—Košice Self-governing Region, Bratislava, Banská Bystrica and Trnava. It is co-funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund.
