Poland: Government appoints a special team to combat hate crime (Unofficial translation)
On 20 February 2018, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki issued an ordinance appointing an inter-ministerial Committee for preventing the propagation of fascist acts and crimes which incite hatred on the grounds of nationality, ethnicity, race or religion. The team comprises representatives of the ministries of Culture and National Heritage, Justice, Interior and Foreign Affairs, as well as those from the Police, Border Guard, General Prosecutor and the Internal Security Agency. Activists and human rights organisations can take part in the meetings of the Committee at the invitation of its chairman.
The Committee was established on the initiative of the Minister of the Interior and Administration. Its main goal is to develop recommendations to amend the Polish legislation and regulations aimed at counteracting the above mentioned problems.
