Europe: Call for Proposals on health-enhancing activities for refugees
- Funding opportunity
The Directorate-General for Education and culture has launched a call for proposals (EAC/S16/2016) to promote broader access to health-enhancing physical activities (HEPA) for refugees. The deadline for applications is 9 September 2016.
This call would allow the testing of the development of HEPA activities in at least 6 Member States particularly concerned by the massive arrivals of refugees. Each of the 6 selected projects should involve local sport organisations and at least 100 refugees, as well as take into account gender equality. The total budget earmarked for the co-financing of projects is estimated at €600.000,00 with a maximum of €60.000,00 for each grant. The EU contribution cannot exceed 80% of the total eligible costs of the project.
DG Education, with this call, intends to achieve several results, including:
- Awareness-raising among refugees about the health and social benefits of practicing sport and physical activity;
- Better well-being and integration of refugees in society;
- Increased knowledge among refugees of European values.
In early 2016, Sport had been highlighted as one of the areas for greater European action on migrant and refugee integration.
