IOM Migration legal guide for practitioners in Greece
With this booklet, IOM wants to support and complement Greek efforts in the provision of immediate assistance to migrants by creating an operational tool that would assist practitioners in the implementation of the Greek Law and European Directives. This booklet provides a general overlook of all residence permits available to migrants to support social services, health professionals, NGOs and other actors in their work.
The first section introduces the general principles that apply to residence permits while the second describes in details the criteria and the circumstances under which each single residence permit is granted. The third section focuses on the rights and obligations of third country nationals.
The booklet also covers the new protection schemes recently introduced in the Greek legislation, in favour of vulnerable migrants. The Law 4251/2014 for example sets up a variety of provisions that tackle, for the first time in such a comprehensive way, some specific vulnerable groups, including victims of trafficking, domestic violence and exploitation, as well as unaccompanied minors.
The publication of this booklet has been made possible thanks to the support from the European Commission and the Greek Ministry for Migration Policy.
