Olomouc - Legal responses to forced mass migration - regional approaches and perspectives
Start: 21/10/2016 at 13:00
End: 22/10/2016 at 15:30
Since 2015, the European Union has been facing significant flows of migrants and refugees, which resulted in what many call migration crisis. This has raised questions concerning the EU´s asylum and migration policy, as well as relevant EU response mechanisms and their legal underpinnings. Globally however, Europe is just one of the regions of the world facing mass migration. This conference coordinated by Palacký University Olomouc and University of Johannesburg therefore aims at exploring legal responses to forced mass migrations from a global perspective, with a focus on Europe and Africa.
During the 5 planned panels, speakers will cover issues as varied as the application process, temporary protection statuses, and security and protection of refugees. Apart from South African, Czech and other European researchers, the conference will see the contribution of academics from international universities such as the Australian National University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, as well as practitioners and policy-makers. Věra Jourová, EU Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality and Kateřina Šimáčková, Judge at the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic will deliver the opening address.
Registration is open until 18 October.
