Dublin - Enfranchising Ireland? Identity, citizenship and state

The Historical Studies Committee of the Royal Irish Academy, in association with the Department of Justice and Equality and the National University of Ireland in Galway are organising a multi-disciplinary conference on the theme of citizenship and identity. The origins and evolution of both concepts will be explored from classical times, through the medieval period up to partition in Ireland, focusing on the implications for Ireland’s citizens. Contemporary issues such as Brexit, migration and integration will also be discussed. The conference will see the contribution of classicists, historians and social scientists during the 5 planned sessions, as well as Minister for Justice and Equality Frances Fitzgerald TD. for the opening address.
