Tartu – International refugee day celebrations
June 20 is International Refugee Day. To mark this occasion, Tartu International House offers an opportunity to form bonds with people who have had to leave their country and start a new life in Estonia.
Two of Tartu’s restaurants will offer food prepared by guest chefs from Syria and Egypt:
- 12:00-15:00. Krempel hosts lunch prepared by Iman from Syria.
- 15:00-20:00. GenGöök hosts Egyptian vegan food prepared by Engie.
18:00-20:00. The Genklubi will host a ‘living library’, where people from Iran, Nigeria, Syria, Tajikistan, Iraq and Hong Kong will share their thought-provoking stories.
16:00-19:00. Medusa is a role play that gives the participants a feeling of what it means to be in a position of a refugee. Registration is required to participate in the role play, and information is available on the event’s Facebook page.
The events are supported by UNHCR and the Living Library is also supported by the European Union through the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Estonia.
