End: 19/08/2018 at 18:00

Due to ongoing wars and prolonged hostilities in several parts of the world, the number of persons seeking international protection in the EU has rapidly grown, making access to asylum and full refugee protection an important but challenging task. This year’s International Summer School in Refugee Law and Rights of the Palacký University will offer both general training in refugee law and a specific case-study analysis on access to asylum and asylum rights in four countries of the Central and Southeastern Europe: Bulgaria, Hungary, Croatia and the Czech Republic.

The training will focuses on the legal procedures for assisting asylum claims, including practices of taking testimonies, finding Country of Origin Information and documenting families. It also includes a comprehensive one-day simulation of the humanitarian relief and assistance response. The principal aim is to advance the skills for protecting asylum seekers and to help exchange and build expert cooperation networks to address the current challenges. Full Programme

The School is open to students and professionals from all academic disciplines and backgrounds but particularly targets staff from refugee and human rights organisations, as well as government officials, practicing lawyers, journalists, activists, scholars and researchers working directly on forced migration issues and refugee protection.
