Marine and maritime-related EU-funded projects can be found across various policy areas and are financed by various EU funds. Examples include:
CoCoNET (2012-2016) - Towards COast to COast NETworks of marine protected areas (from the shore to the high and deep sea), coupled with sea-based wind energy potential. The project will produce the guidelines to design, manage and monitor network of MPAs, and an enriched wind atlas for both the Mediterranean and the Black Seas
ECOOP (completed) - The goal of ECOOP was to build up a sustainable pan-European capacity in providing timely, quality assured marine service (including data, information products, knowledge and scientific advices) in European coastal-shelf seas.
EnviroGRIDS (completed) - The project was building Capacity for a Black Sea Catchment Observation and Assessment System supporting Sustainable Development
HYPOX (completed) - Oxygen Monitoring in Aquatic Ecosystems - Project HYPOX was focusing on a better understanding of the occurrence of hypoxia (low oxygen conditions) in aquatic systems and the influence of anthropogenic impacts on the responsible processes
KNOWSEAS (2009-2013) - The objective is to eastablish a Knowledge-based Sustainable Management for Europe's Seas
MAREAS (2012-2015) - The project aims is to provide a strategic framework for the practical implementation of several actions and initiatives concerning the mitigation of the impact of global changes in the regiont
MISIS (2012-2014) and EMBLAS (2013-2014) - Twin projects covering all the Black Sea littoral states aim to set up an integrated monitoring system in the Black Sea. The overall objective of the project is to create initiatives that will help improve the protection of the Black Sea environment
MONINFO (completed) - Project on Environmental Monitoring of the Black Sea Basin: meant to build Monitoring and Information Systems for Reducing Oil Pollution
MyOcean (2012-2014) - Project objective is to deliver and operate a rigorous, robust and sustainable Ocean Monitoring and Forecasting system of the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security program (GMES) Marine Service
PEGASO (2010-2014) - People for Ecosystem-based Governance in Assessing Sustainable development of Ocean and coast - aims to develop tailor-made actions in the Black Sea for a better Integrated Coastal Zone Managment
PERSEUS (2012-2015) - The Policy-oriented marine Environmental Research for the Southern European Seas - project aims to design an effective and innovative research governance framework, which will provide the basis for policymakers to turn back the tide on marine life degradation
SASEPOL - funded within TRACECA (completed) - The objective was to facilitate international maritime transport of passengers and goods, and to support maritime safety, security and environmental protection in the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea regions
UP-GRADE BS-SCENE (completed) - The project was building and extending the existing research infrastructure)
