The objective of this project was to estimate the overall economic costs of conjugal violence in Europe by taking the different quantifiable aspects into account: direct and indirect medical costs and social costs. Within the project it was chosen to work in a detailed way in four very different and representative Member States (DK, ES, FR, HU), then more generally in the 25, in such a way as to be able to provide an overall European estimation (EU25) as well. The object was to show that a sustainable and increased investment in the prevention of these instances of violence will allow substantial savings in medical and social costs. To allow the decision makers to carry out the best possible allocations of resources, it is necessary to inform them about the overall costs of these instances of violence and the gains hoped for due to prevention policies in the area.
Main beneficiaries of the project are girls and women victims of domestic violence through knowledge of the overall cost of the violence and strengthening and / or a better allocation of resources for various prevention programs and assistance.
